Katy Yong
Katy (Kah-tee) Yong has dedicated her life to wellness, fitness and dance. Her studies and training include a wide range of dances from Chinese Classical, Peruvian Folklore, Ballet, and Jazz to Modern Release technique, contemporary, Tap, Flamenco and Latin Rhythms. She has studied with Alvin Ailey, David Rousseve, Nina Martin, Anandha Ray, Joan Burgess, and Liliana de Leon-Torsiello to name a few. Katy has performed throughout California including the Ethnic Dance Festival and toured internationally in the United Kingdom where she performed at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival. She holds a B.A. in World Arts & Cultures from UCLA. While maintaining her dance career as a choreographer, performer and instructor, Katy managed and developed the fitness and special events programs at the iconic Claremont Club & Spa, a Fairmont Hotel, as the Director of Wellness for the last 25 years.
Katy is the founder and creator of RitmoKá, dance choreography and fitness training coaching. Her philosophy focuses on injury prevention by regular body conditioning in a sustainable manner. Katy believes that maintaining a strong, balanced and aligned body along with mindful movement cannot be separated from one another.
Katy is based in the East Bay and offers in-person/online classes at the renowned Shawl Anderson Dance Center and Mahea Uchiyama Center for International Dance.
